COMMUNITY Leaders CAMP 2022
In late April 2022, 41 community builders descended into Jasper National Park to take part in a fun and inspirational three days of learning and connecting. We covered topics such as: Indigienous partnerships, risk management, collaboration, leadership, economic outlook, community activation, communication, consumer behaviour and strategic problem solving.
We learned a lot! Here is a little summary of first Community Leaders Camp:
WHAT WAS GREAT
The logistics:
Jasper Park Lodge, time of year, group size and food.
The content:
Participants loved the topics that were provided. There wasn’t a topic that they didn’t find interesting and they thought the length of time for the sessions was a good fit for the dynamic of the day. Participants voiced their appreciation for the indigenous story-teller and Chief Emeriskin’s presentation.
The extras:
Time for socialization throughout the camp, not just evenings. The opportunity to connect with the instructors was a special bonus since they stayed for most of the camp. Peer relationships were established and a lot of friendships were formed.
WHAT WE LEARNED?
The logistics:
Give maps for the locations of the sessions. Agenda on name tags with QR codes for contact information. Build in physical movement in the agenda (too much sitting) and start a bit later in the morning.
The content:
Allow for facilitated mingling and group work to take place in sessions. Give slides in each session. Add panel discussions. Additional topics to include for next year: Crisis management, leading with strategy, and economic development vs. business development.
The extras:
Give more activities for companions, give an overview of the attendees in the agenda workbook. Professional photographer and videographer to capture the whole event.
